About

WIIS WEST was originally established in 2005 by graduate students of the National Security Studies program at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB). Our headquarters is now in the Financial District of San Francisco.

Our chapter covers the area between southern California and Victoria, B.C. Canada. Within this region are many public, private, and academic organizations focused on all aspects of national and international security.

We define “security” broadly to encompass a range of issues from counter-terrorism, defense and arms control to conflict prevention, peace-building, environmental security, cybersecurity, and human security. We seek to bring together the professionals in the west to promote our visibility and strength in the sector.

We serve members of the public, private, and academic sectors who are based in the western provinces or states of Canada and the United States.

WIIS WEST…

  • holds networking mixers and speaking engagements;

  • offers trainings, workshops, and educational opportunities;

  • provides opportunities for networking, collaboration and mentoring, and;

  • promotes the study and awareness of national and international security issues, building a network of partnerships among universities and professional organizations, public and private.

Leadership

Lila Green, President

For Lila, national and international security are true passions.  The daughter of two former employees of the US Department of State, a life of service is her main professional goal and she is proud to be representing that ideal as the President of WIIS West. Lila holds an MA in Nonproliferation and Terrorism Studies with a Specialization in Financial Crimes Management from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies. She works as an Export Compliance Analyst for Autodesk and as an Associate for the Institute for Inner Economy.  Lila is also a proud mom and a proud native of California. She seeks to prove that, contrary to popular belief, both of these things are assets in the security sector.
