WIIS Celebrates UNSCR 1325 at 20
On 31 October 2000, the United Nations Security Council adopted resolution 1325 (UNSCR 1325) on Women, Peace and Security. This resolution launched the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda which called for
- Increasing the representation and participation of women in peace and security decision-making processes.
- Integrating gender perspectives in the analysis of peace and security issues; and
- Adopt special measures to protect women from all forms of conflict related sexual and gender-based violence.
Since 2000, the UN Security Council has adopted 9 more WPS resolutions.
WIIS’ work seeks to advance the goals and ideals set forth in UNSCR 1325 and in the broader WPS agenda.
To mark the anniversary of UNSCR 1325, WIIS and the WIIS Chapters and Affiliates will be hosting a variety of events discussing the WPS agenda and the role of gender in international peace and security.
