Describe a professional or volunteer experience that you feel qualifies yourself for service on a board: | I am an academic (international relations professor) with a strong interest in policy informed by social science. I would bring to a board an understanding of scholarly research and how it can bear on important policy and advocacy issues. I can help bring ideas and knowledge generated in academia to the policy world, and, conversely, identify problems in policy and advocacy that social science might be able to help understand. During a year I spent in the State Department's nuclear nonproliferation bureau in 2012-2013, I gained a much stronger understanding of the policy world and of the importance of bridging the gap between the scholarly and policy worlds. |
