July 2015: WIIS Brussels hosted a Conversation with Ambassador Francesca Tardioli, Assistant Secretary General in the Operations Division at NATO on July 2.
Francesca Tardioli discussed her experience in the security and defence field as DASG at NATO and as a career diplomat in the Italian foreign service. She will share her views on what public policies are needed to improve gender equality in the sector. The event, held with the support of the the US Missions to the EU and to NATO, is informal and the audience is encouraged to actively participate in the conversation. November 25, 2015: On November 25, WIIS Canada, in conjunction with UNHCR Canada, the Ottawa Coalition to End Violence Against Women (OCTEVAW), Sexual Assault Services Centre (SASC) Ottawa, and the Immigrant Women Services of Ottawa (IWSO), launched a National Presentation of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. September 28, 2015: WIIS Canada, Ottawa Coalition to End Violence Against Women (OCTEVAW) and Women Peace and Security Network – Canada (WPSN-Canada) hosted a live Twitter chat for the 9th Annual Ottawa Peace Festival on the topic of How Does Violence Against Women Deter Sustainable Peace? Hashtags #EndVAW and #PeaceIncludesWomen were used for participants to weigh in about the role of women in sustainable peace. To learn more about this event, please click here.
May 2015: WIIS Canada hosted an annual academic conference in May 2015 at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. Keep an eye out for the upcoming call for proposals and papers.
February 2015: WIIS Germany invited High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security, Federica Mogherin, to speak at an invitation-only meeting organized by WIIS in conjunction with the Munich Security Conference on February 7, 2015. February 2015: WIIS Israel recently hosted a mentoring event in which a prominent Israeli judge spoke to ten law students about working in the field as a woman. In addition, a One-to-One roundtable event is scheduled for February 2015. This roundtable will address the gender parity in Israeli politics and feature women representatives from the major parties.

WIIS Malta is strengthening its connections with local universities and mentoring students on issues related to women and security. Additionally, WIIS Malta plans to launch a program building community mosaics to strengthen ties between female migrants and local women.

18 November 2016: SWIIS will participate as invited Association to join the UN Women Committee simulation (COMPIMUN 2016) organized by the Complutense University International Model UN students members (Faculty of Political Sciences-Complutense University of Madrid) and to give the final speech at the closing ceremony.
8 November 2016: SWIIS was invited by NATO Public Diplomacy Division to join with others Spanish women organizations the workshop “Women Think Tankers & Communicators” in order to analyze the Warsaw Summit main conclusions and the NATO women, peace, and security agenda. Our Coordinator, Dr. Ana Belén Perianes participated at this workshop.
18 October 2016: SWIIS was invited by the NATO Women to participate as a member of the New Civil Society Advisory Panel on Women, Peace, and Security.

May 4, 2016: WIIS Spain participated in “II National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security” event with the Diplomatic School of the Spanish Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.
Dr. Anna Powles of WIIS New Zealand spoke at the Women In Leadership Summit in Vanuatu hosted by the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG), a regional organization comprising of Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Vanuatu, and the Solomon Islands. Powles will discuss the importance of UNSCR 1325 in respect to the MSG’s development of a UN mandated regional peacekeeping force.
February 18, 2015: WIIS New Zealand hosted an event on “Women in Combat, UNSCR 1325, and the New Zealand Army,” featuring Major General Dave Gawn, Chief of Army. Major General Gawn shared his experiences on the role of women in combat and implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325.
