The National Democratic Institute (NDI) is a non-profit, non-partisan, non-governmental

democracy and freedom with dignity. Our work in the Solomon Islands supports inclusive and

citizen-centered governance through efforts such as, strengthening women’s political participation, supporting the participation of youth and marginalized groups and promoting election integrity.

NDI seeks a part-time Long-Term Consultant, possibly multiple, to provide critical support to

NDI’s programs across the Solomon Islands. The consultant(s) will play a crucial role in driving our mission forward by leveraging their expertise in gender, women’s political participation, elections, political parties, polling, and/or citizen participation.

Key Tasks:

  1. Assist in the implementation and oversight of programs in Solomon Islands, ensuring they align with NDI’s strategic objectives.
  2. Provide expert advice on the design and execution of projects focusing on gender, women’s political participation, elections, political parties, polling, and/or citizen participation.
  3. Collaborate closely with other international organizations, donors and development agencies, and local partners to ensure program success.
  4. Regularly report on project progress and outcomes to internal and external stakeholders.
  5. Travel to and throughout the Solomon Islands to oversee on-the-ground operations and foster relationships with local partners.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  1.  Proven experience working on development projects across the Solomon Islands.
    1. At least 10 years of international development experience is required.
  2. Demonstrated expertise in areas such as gender, women’s political participation, elections, political parties, polling, and/or citizen participation.
  3. Prior experience working for an international organization or development agency. Strong networks with Australian and New Zealand donors and political stakeholders is a plus.
  4. Excellent project management skills and the ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously.
  5. Strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders,including donors, government officials, and teams across a bureaucracy.
  6. Fluency in English is required. Proficiency in other languages spoken in the Solomon Islands is a plus.
  7. Pacific Islanders are highly encouraged to apply. Those not residing in the Solomon Islands should be able to travel to those locales with ease from nearby airport linkages. Regular travel to the Solomon Islands will be expected.
