WIIS Book Talk with Author Natasha Garcha on July 6th
Join us for a WIIS Book Talk!
Join WIIS and author Natasha Garcha as she discusses her latest book, Gender Equality and Climate Security: The Athenian Edge. Drawing on original data analytics, the book establishes gender equality as the greatest predictor of climate resilience and interstate peace, and explores the gender–climate–peace nexus through twelve dimensions of climate security. Case studies from across continents – including Colombia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Singapore, Sweden and Yemen – showcase these dimensions operating in practice, demonstrating the remarkable progress already being made by those embracing this “Athenian Edge” and what becomes possible when strategic wisdom meets action. Moving from diagnosis to action, the book offers a suite of policy and capital solutions anchored in a gender-transformative approach – from carbon market regulation to national security strategies, from blended finance to orange-green bonds, and from just transition policies to transitional justice mechanisms. Ultimately, The Athenian Edge provides readers with an operationalization framework to act at the speed and scale the twin climate–conflict crisis demands, transforming gender equality into an operational strategy for sustainable peace and climate resilience. During the book talk, author Natasha Garcha will present the book’s innovative framework, showcase case studies that demonstrate tangible solutions, and offer an interactive component and Q&A. The book will be published on June 22, 2026.
